Post Favourite Operating System
One would assume the title is self explanatory, but if it isn't let me explain. Discuss, or just state your favourite OS.

My personal favourite OS has to be VMS. However I do not have the hardware to run VMS at home, (Curse you Hewlett-Packard, curse you!) namely because it runs on only three architectures - VAX, ALPHA and IA-64 (VAX = really old; ALPHA = old; IA-64 = Stupid Itanium!) - and I couldn't afford the costs of an Itanium. My main reason for liking VMS is the fact that its security is extreme, yet unobtrusive (DEFCON calls it unhackable). It has a graphical version of TECO (yay TECO), it's file system is ISO-9660, it uses a shark as a mascot (well it looks almost like a dolphin), and it was originally written by DEC (yay DEC).

My second favourite has to be UNIX Time-Sharing System Version 7M. Heck my first experience with a comp was a PDP-11/60 running UNIX V7M (an old friend of mine's dad was an old comp enthusiast, and he happened to own both a PDP-11/60 and the distro tapes of V7M as published by DEC).

I'll shut up now.

I'm running RT-11 V5.3 on a VT-103, and I'm running UNIX V7M on a PDP-11/70 therefore, beat that! Oh and I recovered an ETOS system from 9 mag tapes and a paper tape. So don't whine about Windoze dying.

Live long and prosper, peace and long life, dolphin comrades!

Thanks for the avatar Mick!

I'm not honestly sure, I love the windows XP interface, but I've tried very little else. I know however that I cannot stand using a mac based system, send me a message if you want to hear why as the list is far too long to post here and it would quickly devolve into a rant.

This would be the wrong forum to ask, not a lot of PC geeks here. ;p

I haven't exactly used any other OSes then modern DOS, windows, and *nix flavors [as well as a few hobbist OSes]. None of them really are my favorite, but they all get the job done. ;p

Gentoo Linux is my current favorite and most-booted-to OS and distro.

Windows vista ultimate is my favourite as it has got some novelties which can't be found in previous Operating systems like Aero technology, much better Graphic User Interface etc. I'm looking forward to Windows 7 as well, as that is going to be more stable, more secure and more advanced than all previous operating systems of Mircosoft.

Sounds like random ad spam judging by language only.

My favourite would be Vista however, and I still won't be friends with W7 until they fix all the insane holes and problems. They've been taking their sweet time doing so, however. The only thing that ties me to W7 is the better audio subsystem, as it's giving my webcam a hard time, my mouse a hard time, and has problems with a small variety of applications, all the while I have to endure an unfinished Windows Explorer in it because it's still my favourite file browser.

I'm going to intentionally provoke headaches and say that my favorite OS was DOS. ;)
